Chookas, Jason Klarwein

Jason was in Phedra, the second play I shot for Queensland Theatre way back in 2003. Since then I have enjoyed photographing him in many mainstage performances, as well as directing him in a short film titled, “Nothing Much” – a personal project of mine in 2011. I’ve also watched his prowess as a director and writer evolve; he is a true artist and a trusted friend. He’s currently rehearsing for Once in Royal David’s City for Queensland Theatre and Black Swan State Theatre Company – written by Michael Gow – which is an interesting twist as Michael directed Phedra in 2003. Fourteen years later, it’s great to be doing a portrait shoot with him and I wanted the images to pay homage to his theatricality and staunch character. Chookas mate!
